The First Refuge

When eleven seconds of impossible silence are traced to a museum in Philadelphia, an astrophysicist and a night-shift guard learn that the last survivors of a vanished civilization have lived quietly inside human lives for seventy thousand years, keeping watch. Now the darkness that destroyed their home has found them again.

About the press

Amberstone Press was founded in 2026 to publish a single trilogy properly, and then to keep going. It is a small independent imprint: no agents, no acquisitions committee, and no appetite for the churn of the seasonal list.

What the press cares about is the part of publishing that readers actually feel — a manuscript that has been read closely enough to be internally consistent, an interior set to trade standards rather than defaults, and a book that still reads cleanly on a phone at two in the morning.

Every title is released without DRM and distributed widely, so a book bought anywhere belongs to the reader who bought it.
